I began my career in customer service at age 9, when I took on my first paper-route. At age 13, I was fixing bicycles for people out of a shed in my back yard, charging a small fee for my services. When I was 16, I ventured further into that business as I opened up a bicycle shop with the assistance of the Royal Bank, in conjunction with the High School in the Student Venture Capital Program. My experience with business, taxes, government, and applications came early in life.
While running the shop I then began working at Campbell’s Sports, and remained there until it burned in the fire of 1986. That year my boss bought the Radio Shack and I began managing it until 1991, when I purchased the store from him.
No service career would be complete without graduating to Real Estate, which I did in 2005. Now I get to help people with some of the most important and expensive purchases and sales of their lives. In 2010 I acquired my Broker license, and in 2011 I added the ABR (Accredited Buyers Representative) designation. Most recently, I completed the SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) designation. Never stop learning.
I have many hobbies and interests, kind of a jack of all pastimes, master of none. I like bicycling, tennis, golf and boating in the summer. In the winter it’s cross country skiing, downhill, skating and snowmobiling. At anytime I would scuba dive, and enjoy home renovations (with all of the necessary permits of course). I have two children: my eldest, Matthew, his wife Sabrina, and my adorable little grandchildren Joel, Kylie and Jeremy live in Barrie where they have their own Web Design business: Whetham Solutions. My youngest, Daniel, works with Matthew as a computer programmer and lives in Orillia with his wife Sarah. I have one brother, Neil, an insurance broker, and one sister, Lisa, a real estate lawyer, who both reside here in Parry Sound.
Kevin Whetham was our real estate agent for the purchase of our first home. We first met Kevin as the selling agent for the house we were interested in. When he found out we were first time homebuyers he was quick to give some great general advice and some important things to consider. Once we realized this was the house for us it was a natural decision to ask Kevin to represent us in the purchase process of the house.
Both Andrew and myself deal with people on a daily bases and know the importance of customer service. Customer service two simple words with a lot of meaning behind them and this is exactly what sticks out in our minds when we think of Kevin. He posses exceptional customer service skills which is something that seems to be lacking in a lot of businesses now a days. He took many extra steps to ensure we had all possible information we required to make a knowledgeable decision and was patient with us the whole time.
There are many unknowns in real estate the best thing to do is to find an expert like Kevin. He is someone you can put your trust into and rest assured he is looking out for your best interests throughout the process. It was so fantastic to work with someone that wanted to see us succeed and get the home of our dreams as much as we did.
